Mayuko McMillin is a PhD researcher working at the intersection of nutrition, public health, and implementation science, with a focus on culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) populations in Australia. Her research explores how cultural, social, and environmental factors shape dietary behaviours and cardiometabolic health, particularly in relation to health equity and chronic disease risk. She is interested in how nutrition research and public health strategies can better reflect the diversity of Australian communities.
Affiliated with the Non-Communicable Diseases and Implementation Science program and collaborating with researchers at La Trobe University, Mayuko’s current work examines dietary behaviours and chronic disease risk among diverse populations, including the influence of migration, acculturation, and social determinants of health on long-term health outcomes.
Before commencing her research career, Mayuko worked extensively in corporate and professional translation roles as a NAATI-certified English-Japanese translator. This cross-cultural and communication expertise continues to inform her research approach and commitment to inclusive, community-informed health research.
