What does the process look like?
Starting on an insulin pump involves a structured series of appointments designed to set you up for success. Here's what a typical schedule looks like:
- Two one-hour preparation appointments with a diabetes educator.
- One one-hour preparation appointment with a dietitian.
- A pump start appointment at our clinic, which takes approximately half a day (up to four hours).
- In some cases, your private health insurer may require a brief hospital stay — if so, we work with a local private hospital where you can expect to spend around four hours.
For pump upgrades, the process is less intensive and requires fewer appointments.
Follow-up care is a mix of face-to-face and remote appointments. Remote check-ins involve uploading data from your pump so your educator can review your pump report with you — convenient and flexible.
