Managing weight is rarely straightforward. For many people, it's not simply a matter of eating less or moving more — it's a complex, ongoing health challenge influenced by hormones, medical history, lifestyle and lived experience. Our Weight Assessment and Management Clinic takes a whole-person approach, providing specialist medical care and personalised support to help you achieve meaningful, sustainable results.
What we offer
Our clinic brings together a multidisciplinary team of specialists — including an endocrinologist, dietitian, exercise physiologist and diabetes nurse educator — to provide comprehensive, coordinated care tailored to your individual needs and goals.
We specialise in supporting people with:
- Chronic weight problems, including repeated episodes of weight regain after successful weight loss.
- Obesity (BMI greater than 30 kg/m²).
- Overweight (BMI greater than 27 kg/m²) with related health conditions, including:
- type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes
- heart disease, high blood pressure (hypertension)
- high cholesterol (dyslipidaemia)
- obstructive sleep apnoea
- non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
- polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
- depression
- impaired physical capacity.
Patients attending our clinic also have the opportunity to participate in clinical research trials led by our researchers — contributing to discoveries that could help others in the future.
Your care team
We strongly encourage seeing both an endocrinologist and dietitian — ideally on the same day — to give you the best possible foundation for your weight management journey. Other specialists are available based on your individual needs.
Our team works together to look at all aspects of your medical and social history, dietary habits and lifestyle, ensuring that every health condition is managed safely and with care. Whatever your circumstances — multiple medical conditions, dietary requirements, injuries or a busy schedule — we'll tailor our approach to suit you.
Endocrinologist
Your first appointment will be with our endocrinologist, who will take a thorough medical history, conduct a clinical examination, arrange any necessary blood tests and review your completed health questionnaire. Together, you'll develop an individualised treatment and support plan that addresses both the physical and mental health impacts of weight.
Dietitian
Our dietitian will conduct a detailed assessment of your medical history, daily diet and lifestyle habits, then work with you to develop a personalised nutrition approach. They work closely with the whole team to tailor dietary guidance not just for weight management, but also to help with any related conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure or PCOS. Our dietitians take all dietary requirements, food preferences, allergies and intolerances into account — just let them know at your appointment.
Exercise physiologist
Our exercise physiologist will assess your strength, balance, range of motion, posture and functional ability, then design a personalised exercise program suited to your current fitness level and health needs. If injuries or a busy schedule make regular exercise difficult, they can help you find safe, practical options that fit your life.
Diabetes nurse educator
If you are prescribed injectable medication for weight loss, our diabetes nurse educators will guide you through how to administer it safely and effectively, and answer any questions you may have.
Nutrition approaches
We offer a range of evidence-based nutrition approaches to suit different lifestyles and preferences. Our dietitians can help you explore options including:
- Very low energy diets (VLED), such as Optifast, Optislim and Formulite.
- Intermittent fasting, including the 5:2 approach.
- Time-restricted eating, such as the 16:8 method.
- Energy reduction diets.
- The Mediterranean diet.
- The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating.
- A non-diet approach focused on health behaviours rather than weight.
