What to expect at your first appointment

Your first visit begins with an initial assessment so we can understand your health history, current condition and goals. From there, we'll assess your physical function and exercise capacity to design a program that's right for you.

You'll then have the option to join individual or group exercise sessions — as frequently or occasionally as suits you. Every session is supervised by an accredited exercise physiologist in a safe, friendly and supportive environment.

Throughout your program, you can expect:

  • Regular monitoring and progression of your exercise program as your fitness improves.
  • Guidance on healthy lifestyle strategies that complement your exercise.
  • Education on how exercise benefits your specific condition and how to build it into everyday life.
  • Monitoring of blood pressure, blood glucose, heart rate and oxygen saturation levels before, during and after exercise, where relevant.
  • Ongoing monitoring of your overall health status.
  • Support setting realistic, achievable goals.
  • Re-assessment of your exercise capacity over time to track your progress.

What is an accredited exercise physiologist?

An accredited exercise physiologist (AEP) is a fully qualified allied health professional with a minimum of four years of university training. They specialise in designing exercise, lifestyle and behavioural modification programs for the prevention, rehabilitation and management of chronic conditions and injuries.

Conditions our AEPs commonly work with include diabetes and pre-diabetes, cardiovascular disease, heart failure, angina, heart attack, overweight and obesity, and musculoskeletal conditions and injuries.

Using clinical assessment skills and deep expertise in how the body responds to exercise, our AEPs develop tailored programs to help improve your health, fitness, physical function and quality of life.

Why exercise works

Exercise is one of the most powerful tools available for managing and preventing chronic disease — and unlike many medications, it can benefit multiple conditions at the same time.

A well-designed exercise program can help improve:

  • Blood glucose control.
  • Blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
  • Heart and lung function.
  • Weight management and metabolic health.
  • Muscle strength, endurance and flexibility.
  • Bone health.
  • Balance, coordination and posture.
  • Psychological and physical wellbeing.
  • Your ability to carry out everyday activities with ease.

In some cases, regular exercise can even reduce or eliminate the need for certain medications by meaningfully improving your clinical health status.
