Professor Greening is Head of Molecular Proteomics at Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute. He is the Helen Amelia Hains Fellow and Baker Institute Fellow, in addition to Head of the Baker Institute's Proteomics Research Platform. Prof Greening is Director of the Multi-omics: Proteomics and Metabolomics Infrastructure Platform at La Trobe University, and Executive/Lab Head at the Baker Department of Cardiovascular Research, Translation and Implementation, La Trobe University. He holds positions at the School of Translational Medicine, Monash University and Baker Department of Cardiometabolic Health, University of Melbourne.

His multidisciplinary research program changed the conceptual basis of extracellular vesicle (EV) biology by demonstrating that EVs are heterogeneous, specialised signalling entities rather than uniform particles. Integrating molecular tools, mass spectrometry, multi-omics, nanotools, biomaterials, and functional biology, he established a framework defining EV identity, signalling and tissue remodelling, and functional reprogramming.

His team integrates stem cell biology, acellular therapeutics, multi-omics (incl proteomics, surface membrane and organelle proteomics, phosphoproteomics, lipidomics), models of cardiac disease, aptamer biology applied to EVs, systems biology strategies to understand heart composition and reprogramming, and development and application of quantitative mass spectrometry. His international recognition aligns with unique strategies developed to decipher the form and function/bioactivity of extracellular signalling, innovative proteomic technologies to understand and integrate complex biology, and develop diagnostics and therapies that impact human disease. Prof Greening and his team have been successful in attracting competitive grants >$21M, including >$8M as CI from NHMRC, ARC, Heart Foundation, PanKind, international agencies, philanthropy and industry.

He has established ties and long-standing collaborations with industry partners which have supported commercial licensing, patent filings, in addition to leading academic institutions nationally and internationally. His work being published in leading general and specialist journals including Nature Cell Biology, Nature Methods, Nature Rev Clinical Oncology, Circulation Research, Circulation, Nature Cardiovascular Research, Journal of Extracellular Vesicles, Blood, Nature Communications, Journal of Clinical Investigation, and Molecular Cellular Proteomics.
