Isabella is an Animal Technician and Research Assistant in the Cardiovascular Inflammation and Redox Biology team at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute. Her research focuses on therapeutic strategies for cardiometabolic diseases, with particular interest in improving mitochondrial function and modulating inflammatory pathways using long-term in vivo and in vitro models.
Prior to joining the Baker Institute, Isabella completed a Master of Medical Research and Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. Through her experience working across clinical hospital settings, she developed a first-hand understanding of the impact of chronic disease on patients and healthcare systems. Her research interests are driven by a desire to understand the metabolic mechanisms underlying chronic disease and contribute to the development of novel therapeutic strategies.
Within the Cardiovascular Inflammation and Redox Biology team, Isabella supports a range of preclinical research projects, with a particular focus on the immunometabolite itaconate, and its effects on inflammation and oxidative stress through the Nrf2–NLRP3 axis. In her role, she performs a range of in vivo rodent procedures, in vitro tissue culture applications, and laboratory methodologies to support the team’s ongoing research.
