I am passionate about the intersection of fundamental molecular biology research and public health impact. I earned a BSc in Biology and developed a strong enthusiasm for bench research through internships at MD Anderson Cancer Center and University of California, Santa Cruz. I later combined this scientific foundation with my interest in public health by earning a Master of Public Health from University of California, San Diego.

Following graduate school, I worked in the biotechnology industry for several years, where I gained experience in molecular biology techniques including next-generation sequencing (NGS) applications and CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technologies. My passion for translational research ultimately drew me to the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute and the work being conducted in Sam El-Osta’s lab on type 1 diabetes.

In type 1 diabetes, autoreactive T cells destroy insulin-producing beta cells, resulting in lifelong dependence on insulin therapy. Our lab is focused on regenerating beta cells from pancreatic ductal epithelial cells. My research investigates changes in antigen presentation during beta-cell conversion and uses CRISPR engineering approaches to help cells evade autoreactive T cell attack.
