Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death worldwide. More than four in five CVD deaths are caused by heart attack and stroke — and one in three of those deaths occur in people under 70 years of age, cutting short lives that should still be in full stride.

At the Baker Institute, we are determined to change that.

Our heart attack research is focused on understanding who is most at risk of developing blocked arteries, so we can predict heart attacks and strokes before they happen — and develop new treatments to stop them. We are also conducting clinical trials of anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic and lipid-lowering therapies in people who have already experienced a heart attack, with the aim of reducing damage to the heart and preventing further events.

This is research that saves lives. And with 100 years of cardiovascular science behind us, we are more focused than ever.
