Heart failure affects more than 64 million people globally, and 144,000 people are currently living with heart failure in Australia. Heart failure occurs when the heart stops pumping blood as well as it should. There is no cure for heart failure, it can significantly increase the risk of stroke, and both conditions are strongly linked to diabetes.

By leveraging strengths in molecular biology using cutting-edge technologies, bioinformatics, heart imaging and clinical insights, we want to understand the pathways that underpin heart failure. This will allow us to develop new therapies to reverse heart failure, reduce the risk of death and deliver better quality of life for people with heart failure.
