- Heart Failure
Heart failure affects more than 64 million people globally. In Australia, 144,000 people are living with this condition every day. When the heart can no longer pump blood as effectively as it should, the impact reaches every part of a person's life — increasing the risk of stroke, limiting independence and affecting quality of life in ways that are both profound and deeply personal. There is currently no cure.
That is what drives our research.
By drawing on expertise in molecular biology, cutting-edge technologies, bioinformatics, heart imaging and clinical insight, our team is working to understand exactly what causes heart failure to develop — and what causes it to worsen. That understanding is the foundation for developing new therapies: treatments that could one day reverse heart failure, reduce the risk of death and help people live fuller, healthier lives.
The connection between heart failure and diabetes is well established, and our researchers are uniquely placed to explore and address both — together.
