Dr Luke Rowsell

Luke joins the Unexplained Cardiac Death Project (UCDP), a world-first, clinical-quality registry and genetic database of individuals (aged 1–50 years) and at-risk family members affected by Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). SCA is a devastating, often fatal consequence of a number of cardiovascular disorders. Understanding the precise causes of, and the clinical circumstances and triggers of SCA, are critical steps in developing targeted clinical and genetic screening programmes with the translational goal to prevent SCA in our community.

Luke has a PhD in medicine from the University of Sydney where he investigated the effect of acute oral morphine on obstructive sleep apnoea, focusing on identifying the role of opioid-induced changes in ventilatory chemoreflexes and genetic markers in predicting individual opioid response. He has previous experience coordinating national registries of lymphoma and aplastic anaemia.
