Dr Monica A. Florez Mausa

MD | MRCP

I am a young imaging cardiology consultant. I have a background in radiobiology, proteomics and completed internal medicine training in Bogota (Colombia) prior to relocating to Cambridge (UK) where I worked in as a physician in cardiothoracic medicine before specialising in clinical cardiology and multimodality cardiac imaging.

I have recently relocated to Melbourne (Australia) to pursue a PhD with the Cardiometabolic Imaging lab on poor adaptation of the heart muscle and novel cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) sequences. These are special CMR image acquisition techniques that might allow us to better understand heart muscle metabolism changes in the overworked heart.

These sequences are not yet used in routine clinical practice but we hope that our work will contribute to finding their role in the clinical decision making tool set, perhaps by enabling us to identify poor adjustment changes at an early stage, when we might have a greater chance of modifying their progression and preventing their health impact at an individual level, protecting the quality of life of people in our communities.

I am honoured and thankful to have joined the Baker Heart and Diabetes team, and for the welcoming support of my supervisors and Baker colleagues in this new adventure. I look forward to meeting you all and collaborating.
