Sophie Malan

Sophie is a Research Assistant in the Diabetes and Population Health team at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute. She is passionate about improving outcomes for people living with diabetes through research that enhances early detection and prevention of complications.

Before joining the Baker Institute, Sophie completed a Master of Public Health (Epidemiology) and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Bachelor of Science at Monash University. Through her research and academic training, she aims to contribute to evidence-based strategies that reduce the burden of diabetes and improve health outcomes at a population level.

Sophie currently works on the PREDICTION study, a large observational cohort study examining the progression of diabetes complications in people with young adult-onset diabetes. In her role, she supports participant recruitment, screening, and data collection, ensuring adherence to research protocols and ethical standards. She is also responsible for managing participant communications and study databases and contributing to the smooth operation of this multi-year project.
