Dr William Ho

PhD, MPI-DB, Germany | MPhil, CUHK, HKSAR | MTC, UoM, Australia

William grew up immersed in the vibrancy of Hong Kong and received his research training in Denmark, where his passion for biological research took root. Pursuing this passion, he moved to Germany for his PhD and solidified his expertise in molecular biotechnology (BSc, First Class Honours; MPhil, High Distinction). There, he met with Prof Detlef Weigel, an international pioneer in the plant-pan genomics research, and Prof Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard, the 1995 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine laureate, who inspired him to develop a strong interest in developmental genetics, genomics, and bioinformatics. After obtaining his PhD (magna cum laude) from the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology, William decided to begin his post-doctorate in Australia as a hybrid researcher between wet- and dry-lab.

With over 20 years of experience in the field, William is proficient in next-generation sequencing and omics data analyses, contributing significant insights into functional, cellular and population genomics, epigenomics, and multi-omics integration in transcriptomics and metabolomics. William has honed his skills in various academic, commercial and institutional settings, including CSIRO, Metabolomics Australia, Melbourne Integrative Genomics, Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, and Peter MacCallum Cancer Center in Australia. Currently, William is making strides as a Domain Bioinformatician at the System Medicine and Bioinformatics laboratory in Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute. His current  research interest is focused on epidemiology and precision medicine from a multi-omics perspective.
