Uncovering the groundbreaking discoveries of tomorrow starts with investing in scientific talent today.
For two decades, our Bright Sparks program has been nurturing budding scientific minds, shaping the future of medical research with the steadfast commitment of our supporter community.
Associate Professor Brian Drew’s career is a testament to the pivotal role the Bright Sparks program plays in progressing early career scientists in their journey as successful medical researchers.
Joining the Baker Institute as a research assistant, and going on to complete his PhD, Brian received a Bright Sparks Early Career Scientist grant in 2015. This was instrumental in establishing his own independent line of research, the findings of which were fundamental to securing two further significant grants, leading to three high-impact publications.
Now the head of Molecular Metabolism and Ageing at the Baker Institute, Brian is committed to supporting the next generation of upcoming scientists, guiding them toward the discoveries of tomorrow, and believes the Bright Sparks program to be key: “Fundamentally, it’s access to opportunity. These awards give young researchers both the support and the edge to succeed,” Brian says.
A dedicated Bright Sparks donor since 2012, Jenny Tatchell shares her motivation for supporting the program. She firmly believes early career scientists are the future of groundbreaking medical discoveries and enjoys watching their progress. Through her involvement, she has also fostered new friendships with like-minded philanthropic individuals.
As we celebrate two decades of the Bright Sparks scholarships program, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our wonderful donors past and present who have contributed to its success.
Your unwavering commitment ensures that together, we can continue to combat heart disease and diabetes, building a healthier and brighter future for all Australians.
If you too believe in the power of the next generation of researchers, please consider joining our Bright Sparks supporter community. Our Bright Sparks ambassador Annie would love to connect with you.
