  • Competitive salary offered up to $86,822.81(108,528.51 Full Time Equivalent) + 11.5% superannuation + generous salary packaging options
  • Part-time, 0.8 FTE (30.4 hours/week to be split over 5 days)
  • 1-year, fixed-term contract
  • Based in Melbourne

The opportunity

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated OHS Coordinator with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to join our dynamic OHS team.  

The OHS team provides specialist advice, direction, and support to management, staff, and students to ensure compliance with the Institute’s OHS policies and procedures, and applicable legislation (including maintenance of permits and licenses), and to promote and encourage awareness of health and safety standards.

As the OHS Coordinator you will be responsible for coordinating specific OHS management systems and programs at Baker Institute sites.

How you’ll make an impact

In this role you will be expected to:

  • Provide specialist OHS advice and technical support to help managers and staff meet safety requirements.
  • Coordinate and maintain the audit and inspection program.
  • Coordinate and maintain our annual OHS induction and training program for new staff.
  • Maintain OHS policies and procedures, licenses, permits, accreditation and certification.
  • Assist with organizing ongoing safety training programs.
  • Assist with the coordination of the chemical management program.
  • Maintain and update the Risk assessment register.
  • Manage general team administrative tasks.

What will you bring?

You will have:

  • Certificate IV OHS, or studying towards a Cert IV OHS.
  • Knowledge of legislation, regulations, and practices governing workplace health and safety.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a forward-thinking approach to identifying solutions.
  • Service-oriented with a genuine commitment to supporting colleagues across the Institute.
  • A high level of interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a proactive team member and contribute to team development.
  • Experience working in a research laboratory environment highly (preferred)
