Position description

  • $93,300 + superannuation + generous salary packaging options
  • Full-time, 1-year contract with provision to extend further
  • Based in Melbourne

The opportunity

This is a position for Research Officer who will work in the Inflammation and Cardiovascular Disease laboratory and be supervised by Dr Kyaw. The lab has established collaboration works within the Baker Institute as well as academic institutes in Melbourne. The projects are mainly focused on atherosclerosis, hypertension, myocardial infarction and cardiomyopathy and utilises different technology platforms.

Key duties

In this role you will be expected to:

  • Perform high quality research in cardiovascular immunology.
  • Contribute to preparing manuscripts for publications and other research-related documents as well as preparing grant applications.
  • Participate in laboratory meetings, program meetings, staff meetings and seminars.
  • Functional and administrative supervision may be exercised over research assistants, graduate students and other assigned research and support personnel.
  • Actively seek funding for research duties or activities.

Skills and experience

You will have:

  • A PhD in immunology or a related discipline.
  • Strong background, knowledge and experience in molecular biology and immunology is essential (cardiovascular immunology is preferred).
  • Minimum 2 year of appropriate research experience that has resulted in publications, conference papers/abstracts and PhD thesis.
  • Experience in different immunological methods, protein expression and purification are preferred.
  • Experience in animal surgical procedures is advantageous, but not essential.
  • Understands the area of research, and how this team interacts with other directly related groups within the research programme.
  • Excellent organisational skills; attention to detail, the ability to prioritise work, exercise initiative and work under minimal direction with a focus on quality.
