Bioinformatics is the steadily becoming the foundation on which all other fields of biological research is set. Understanding both the computational and biological contexts in which our research operates is essential for the continued development of research in Biology. I consider myself a beginner bioinformatics researcher and hope to strengthen the analysis of human epigenetics research by finding biomarkers associated with diabetes complications.
The dynamic relationship between our gene expression and the environment makes human epigenetics a fascinating and difficult research topic. In the context of diabetes, the epigenetic profile is distinct from non-diabetic individuals and allows us to develop markers for diagnosis of many complications, improving health outcomes. Also, while there are established methods for finding these biomarkers, developing new efficient methods is an important goal that I strive towards.
