Sørine Birkelund

BSc, University College Copenhagen

Sørine became interested in researching diabetes and its underlying epigenetic mechanisms during her bachelor’s degree in biomedical laboratory science at University College Copenhagen (UCC). During her bachelor, she was a research semester student at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC). She was also enrolled in the Monash University and UCC Intern Program, involving a one-year-long internship in the Epigenetics in Human Health and Disease laboratory. Here, she was involved in epigenetic research investigating DNA methylation patterns in diabetic kidney disease in a Danish type 1 diabetes mellitus cohort from SDCC.

Sørine is now a full-time Master’s student from the Biomedical and Health Science degree at Monash University. She is doing her research project and thesis at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in the Epigenetics in Human Health and Disease laboratory.
