Dr Mahesh Kumbukage

MBBS | MSc | MD (Community Medicine) | PgDip (Health Economics, Healthcare Financing and Policy)

Dr Mahesh Kumbukage is a medical doctor and public health specialist (consultant in community medicine) at the Ministry of Health Sri Lanka. He received his basic medical degree MBBS from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sri Jayawerdenapura, Sri Lanka, Master of Science in Community Medicine, and Doctor of Science in Community Medicine from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Economics, Healthcare Financing, and Policy from the Indian Institute of Public Health, Delhi.

He is currently attached to the School of Psychology and Public Health, La Trobe University, Australia as an Adjunct Research Fellow and to the Non-Communicable Diseases and Implementation Science laboratory at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne as a Visiting Academic.

He has more than ten years of teaching experience, in teaching public health to Medical Postgraduate and undergraduate students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. Dr Kumbukage's research interests are in public health especially prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, implementation science, Health Systems, and Maternal and Child Health. He has more than 15 years of working experience as a medical practitioner in clinical and public health programs at national, and divisional levels in Sri Lanka.
